How it works

  1. Step 1

    Describe the roof problem

Tell us what you have noticed, where on the roof it is, the type of house and your postcode. Photos taken from the ground help.

  2. Step 2

We look for a roofer who covers you

If a local roofer covers your postcode and you have given consent, we pass your enquiry to that one roofer and nobody else.

  3. Step 3

You deal with the roofer directly

If your enquiry is passed on, the roofer gets in touch about the job, and any survey, price and start date are agreed between the two of you.

An old clay-tiled roof with moss and lichen, a red brick chimney stack with two chimney pots, stepped grey lead flashing and a row of half-round ridge tiles.
Lead flashing seals the joint where a chimney stack meets the tiles. Lead that has lifted or split is a common way for rain to get in.

Useful to know before you enquire

Worth noting, from the ground

None of this is needed to send an enquiry, but it helps the roofer understand the job sooner.

  • Where the water shows

Which room, where on the ceiling or wall, and whether a stain is spreading. A photo from inside is useful later.

  • When it happens

Only in heavy rain, only when rain is driven by wind from one side, or all the time. Damp that appears in dry weather can have another cause.

  • What you can see from the ground

Slipped or missing tiles, a cracked ridge, lead lifting around the chimney, or a sagging gutter. Look from the garden or a window and never climb up.

  • The kind of roof

Clay or concrete tiles, slate, or a flat roof, and roughly when it was last re-roofed if you know.

Questions

What is Lea Valley Roofers?

An independent enquiry service for homeowners. We are not a roofing company and nobody from us goes up on your roof. With your consent, we pass your enquiry to a local roofer who covers your postcode.

What if nobody covers my postcode?

We tell you, and your details are not passed on to anyone. Nothing more is asked of you, and you are free to find a roofer some other way.

My roof is leaking now. What should I do?

Stay off the roof and off ladders. Inside, catch the water in buckets, move belongings away and keep clear of any ceiling that is bulging or sagging. If water is near lights, sockets or wiring, switch the electricity off at the consumer unit if it is safe to reach. Then send your enquiry. We cannot say how soon a roofer will be able to come.

Do I need planning permission to repair or re-cover my roof?

Usually not, if the work is a repair or uses similar materials on a house. Listed buildings, conservation areas, flats and areas covered by an Article 4 direction can be different, so check with your council before booking work on a home like that.

Is it free to send an enquiry?

There is no charge for it, and sending one leaves you under no obligation. The price of any work is between you and the roofer.
